Kara Bullock (she/her) is a dancer, choreographer, creative arts facilitator, body based storyteller, writer, anti-racism & abolition focused artist. Kara is a mother to Wilder John Wolf Bullock and wife to Distance Bullock.
She was born on the Unceded Territories of the Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh and Squamish First Nations and is a currently a second generation settler on Treaty 7 territory. Her mother is from the island of Mindanao, city of Zamboanga, neighbourhood of Baliwasan in what is colonially known as the Philippines. Her mother's maternal grandfather was a Chinese migrant who was given the name Barretto, her grandfather's family name is Bermas.
Her paternal grandparents were from what is now Poland and the Sudetenland in what is now the Czech Republic. Her family names on that side are Nolte (originally Niski) and Rohland.
This is still the land of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Kainai, Piikani, Siksika) the Îyârhe Nakoda (Chiniki, Wesley, Bearspaw) the Tsuut'ina Nations, and the Métis Nation of Alberta Region 3.
Kara is committed to Truth and Reconciliation, Land Back and Decolonization. She sees these movements and ideologies as inherently intersectional with the work of abolishing all systems of oppression and creating communities of care.
Here are some resources that have shaped her understanding and continued work in these areas. They are also places to offer time, energy and funds as redistribution, reparations and mutual aid.
